Ray Johnston

Ray Johnston is a consultant who teaches EFL and designs training programs. He holds Masters degrees from Macquarie and Sydney universities. An experienced technical writer, Ray continues to develop his creative literary writing skills. He is a member of the ACT Writers’ Centre and attends seminars and workshops.
In recent years Ray sharpened his editorial skills publishing a number of books in English and English/Chinese diglot under the auspices of the Cambridge International Examinations Board.
Ray is well placed to write about New Britain, the scene of the story in this book. He did translation work on the island for thirteen years. It was while living in villages there that he first heard the story of ‘the big rescue’ from local people who assisted the refugees.
Translation work introduced Ray to the discipline of publishing as he produced school readers and other works. He also completed a PhD at ANU on the grammar of a New Britain language, and this was published in the Pacific Linguistics monograph series.
