Roy Douglas

Roy Douglas was born in 1935 in Auckland, New Zealand. Upon completing his education, he embarked on a career as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Auckland Hospital Board in 1954. By 1956, he was focussing on blood transfusion which took him into associated fields with work experiences in Holland, Thailand, Vietnam and Australia. He settled in Brisbane with his family in 1977.
Between 1956 and his retirement in 1987, he held senior scientific positions and had over fifty scientific papers published in refereed journals. He lectured at many national and international meetings, presented reports to governments and graduated Master of Philosophy from Griffith University.
Upon retirement, he launched into commercial Angora goat and beef cattle farming, but Australia’s push into the international mohair market failed, so Roy returned to professional life in 1992 with his own Quality Management business that included consultancy to a team of software developers after which he accepted an unpaid position for two years as Managing Director of a rural Aged Care Facility.
Roy ’s interests include music and sport, especially yachting and rugby. He is a motorcycle rider who enjoys ornithology and bushwalking as well as developing his skills as an author of fiction. Roy now lives in Toowoomba and draws on a wealth of broadly based life experiences in the creation of his characters and stories.
