Beverley Morley

Brisbane born, educated Loreto College, Beverley Morley graduated as a physiotherapist from the University of Queensland, and as Beverley Shanahan, registered the first private ŒPhysiotherapy Centre‚ in Queensland. She also held the position of Honorary Physiotherapist at Mt Olivet Hospital from its foundation for some years.
With husband, Charles Morley (a veteran of the RAAF), and their sons she developed a macadamia plantation in the Glasshouse Mountains area. She returned to study as a part time student at University of Queensland in 1976, running a busy practice, a family, a farm, as well as maintaining her own and the family‚s passion for boating. University assignments sometimes got completed at two to three o‚clock in the morning.
She graduated with a BA in Anthropology and Archaeology in 1980. Currently a member of the Alumni, and a committee member of the Friends of Antiquity associated with the Department of Classics and Ancient History.
Since 1990, she concentrated her research on Near Eastern civilisations, principally Phoenicians. Her yearly study trips took her to Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordon, The Emirates, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, as well as Sardinia, Corsica, Malta, Sicily, Italy, Greece and the eastern Mediterranean islands such as Rhodes, Cyprus, Santorini and Crete. Recently she returned with Tubb‚s study group to Tunisia, Sardinia, Malta and Sicily to study the expansion of the Phoenicians in the west.
