Iris Foster

Iris Foster, born February 1921 in Adelaide , grew up on a sheep station in the raw, almost untouched corner country of NSW.
Iris and her father, Herbert Davies, (an ex-drover for Kidman) visited many drovers’ camps, and many of their stories remained imprinted and stored away in her fertile mind.
Iris’ father passed away when she was only nineteen. She remained on the property with her brother and mother, and when her mother and brother left, Iris stayed on as manager for another six years until the property was sold. She later continued droving with her husband, who, as a drover all his life shared with her his invaluable knowledge.
In her later years Iris left the bush and moved to Brisbane where she tried earning a living for herself and her children with dairy farming, motel work and selling real estate. Her best years were the fifteen years Iris spent in Tasmania . There she had success painting until her eye-sight deteriorated due to an operation that went wrong.
Iris is mother of three children. Unfortunately, her youngest boy died at the age of twenty. Iris currently lives in Sydney and has five grandchildren, one adopted grandchild and three great grandchildren.
