Fathy Fares

Fathy Fares was born in Egypt, a son of a school director and the youngest of seven children. He completed his high school education in Cairo.
He studied engineering at a German university. He is married to a Hungarian / German woman. They have three children; one son and two daughters who are now grown up and have their own families.
Fathy Fares migrated with his family to Australia at the end of the 1960’s. He worked in the engineering field for a few years and studied further in Australia, adding to his engineering degrees higher qualifications in education. He was lecturing in engineering until his early retirement. Fathy was the chairman of a few committees such as staff development, equal opportunity, teaching staff selection panel and multicultural policy party.
His motivation to write came from his keen sense of observation and interest in history and human behaviour. He wrote a few textbooks in engineering and many papers in education as well as short stories. He conducted seminars and workshops and developed and wrote curriculum documents. In addition Fathy was a study writer of the curriculum for technological studies of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Board (VCAB). Other achievements are the writing of four books of poetry in Arabic, which he recited on different ethnic Arabic broadcasting programs.
Many of his poems as well as different articles in Arabic and English were published in the weekly and monthly magazines and newspapers of the Egyptian Society in Australia. Many of his articles in English about different topics including religion appear on the internet.
