Born in Scotland but now lives in Melbourne. He has worked on daily newspapers in Australia and Britain, and also taught sociology at Monash University. His published non-fiction works include Crosstalk: Women, Partners and Children in the Eighties, A Whole New Way of Life, Partnering, and Media Realities (with Damien Kingsbury).
