Royce Hall was born on 22 September 1925 and lived the earlier part of his life in Launceston, Tasmania, where he received a state school education. Transferring in his employment to Hobart, he attended night school to become an accountant and auditor to ultimately occupy the positions of chief accountant and executive officer prior to being retired on invalidity. This provided him with the opportunity to write a total of eight books, including his autobiography.
Royce has six adult children and is widely travelled. He lived alone in his retirement during his writing until remarrying and taking up residence in northern New South Wales for eight years. After this period, he returned to permanently reside in Hobart and update his autobiography.
