Michael Beashel was born in Sydney to Irish forebears who immigrated to NSW in the 1860s. Raised in Bondi and educated in the eastern suburbs, he fell for a girl from Sydney's inner west and twenty five years later still lives there with her and their two grown up children. The building industry, rather than the family's sailing fame, has filled most of his working life both in Australia and abroad providing a source of rich material to background his writing. He has passion for old Sydney and a love of construction.
