I loved reading about the surrounds of Tasmania.

John Morrow

JOHN MORROW’S PICK OF THE WEEK THE TINDERBOX Mark Whitelaw Sid Harta By twists of fate, and nefarious dealings on Bruny Island, off the coast of Tasmania, young Luke Oliver’s life has been torn asunder. His parents and sister died in a mysterious boating accident when he was a young boy, and only his grandfather, Seth, and Luke survived the accident. Years on, Seth dies in a mysterious boatshed fire, and Luke, together with Walter, Seth’s old friend, nearly lose their lives trying to rescue him. Luke Oliver was an exceptional boy who has grown into an exceptional man. Gifted with athletic ability, he is the local boy made good on the island. His dream of becoming a sports journalist has turned into reality with support from his grandfather and family friends. Seth Ramsey was an exceptional man who worked for the Defence Department in the early years of his settlement on the island. Unknown to everyone, except for his dead wife, he kept tabs on happenings in the water surrounding Tasmania, by means of elaborate technology and gadgets in a cave under his house. Seth trains Luke to take over from him, and it is after the fire which killed his grandfather, that Luke uses his investigative skills to put together a mysterious set of incidents which has seen many local businesses sold to the rich and apparently benevolent businessman, Rodriguez. With the help of his lifelong friend and only love, Ellen, Luke begins a series of investigations and reviews of old newspaper clippings to track down the evil that has lurked on the island for years. This evil has driven many businesses, including Ellen’s parents, into the wall. This is an unusual whodunit, filled with an Australian flavour that will grab your imagination. I loved reading about the surrounds of Tasmania. I also relished the tales of adventure which young Luke embarks on to finally discover how his family died and who is behind the incidents which caused the island to lose many of its diehard residents. “Tasmania, the Apple Isle, forms the backdrop for this fantastic story of coincidences and accidents which has resulted in serious consequences for the islanders who adore their lifestyles ” “A book is a private companion – John Morrow”
