Agnes Macmillan came to Australia from Scotland as a young child. She began her career as an educator of young children and progressed to tertiary education after acquiring a PhD. Until recently her writing has concentrated on formal academic publications. Opportunities to explore and express creatively the connections between her inner and outer lives were opened up to her when she found herself living in the beautiful natural environment of Queensland's southeast hinterland. Participating in a variety of writers' workshops and courses has provided her with guidance along the way.
