Bob, Rob, or Robert as his mother called him had his secondary education in Ballarat. Living in country Scotsburn he had to catch a bus to and from school, whilst waiting for bus he was often seen to be looking in the window of charlie jones antique shop opposite school. This was the foundation for in later life collecting, first of all flickers, then picture frames, toothpick holders, and finally all things Essendon, being a one eyed Bomber supporter from an early age.
Not to forget a huge collection of turned wooden mushrooms comprising a set from america, queensland rain forest and the dadswell collection and also an outstanding array of articles made from mulga (acacia aneura). These were sold as souvenirs all over the country.
