Biography: The author was born in Hong Kong. His father was Norwegian; his mother, who died when he was three, was Australian.
Derek received his early education in China and was sent to Australia just before Japan’s entry into World War II. There he completed his schooling.
He studied medicine at the University of Sydney. Following graduation he became a surgeon and later a radiotherapist.
The author, having written and self-published an autobiography has now written about life between the two great wars of the twentieth century as seen through the eyes of his father.
This book is the story of a segment of Sverre Berg’s life, based on notes he wrote while a prisoner of war and later handed down to the author, his son.
Derek and his wife Judy moved to Noosa in south-east Queensland where they are enjoying their retirement.
