Gae Anderson

Gae Anderson

Gae Anderson grew up on her parent’s farm at Matong, 80 kilometres from Wagga Wagga, NSW. She studied by correspondence at home until she went to boarding school.
Listening to radio plays and serials during her childhood fired her passion for acting. In 1963, she graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), and spent the next 20 years performing in theatre, radio, and television. Working in Melbourne in 1981, she chanced to join a writer’s week session at La Trobe University run by her friend Dorothy Hewett, the late poet and playwright. The decision proved to be a life-changing one. She commenced university study which culminated in her being awarded a PhD in Arts from the University of Sydney in 1999.
Gae has taught English as a Second Language (ESL) and lectured at the Centre for International Communication (CIC), Macquarie University. She’s now based in Sydney as a writer.
