Late Entry

There was a cardboard carton filled with notes, pages, scraps of paper . . . the bits and pieces of life.
Moving house clears the mind. There was a choice: put it into some sort of order or put a match to it.
And then began the real work.
Now that some of my life is set down on the page, memories crowd forward and tell me that I have collected only pebbles. The rock remains deep down, undisturbed.
In one mood, I am challenged to chip away at it. In another, I accept that there may not be enough time to meet the ultimate deadline.
