The year 2006 not only commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, but marks 20 years of triumph, friendship and even sorrow in the lives of those involved with this world renowned treatment centre. This unit throws open its doors to cancer sufferers who previously could only see darkness ahead, shining its light to guide the way to hope for the future and hope for a cure.
So many have walked out those very doors into a bright, new world with a greater appreciation of the little things in life and with deep gratitude to the dedicated doctors and nurses who have stood beside them on their journey, yet we must never forgot those for whom the journey has ended. This is also their story, and we honour their memory. Together, let us celebrate the achievements of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and all those who have shared this experience – let us celebrate life
