Cristina Maria Borgia was born in Adelaide, South Australia, on 19 November 1944 to parents Francesco (Italian) and Myrtle (Australian). She left school at fifteen after completing Year 10 because commercial subjects were not taught in Year 11 and went to work in the office of her father's pasta-manufacturing business.
In 1969 she married Max Griguol, and she and Max moved to Lae in Papua New Guinea for a year. While there, she worked for the Australian national airline TAA. She and Max have two daughters, Michelle and Natalie. After ten years at home, Cristina returned to the workforce on a part-time basis.
Cristina speaks reasonably good Italian, having spent fourteen years working in aged care with predominately Italian residents, and also serving the Italian community. She and her husband have travelled extensively in Italy, England, Ireland, France, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Egypt, Hong Kong, Samoa, Canada and the USA.
Cristina says she did not think she had another book in her, but her grandchildren, Alyssa, Max Jr, Lily, and Holly, who are a constant joy, said, ?"You can do it, Nanna", so I have done my best'.
