Derek Smith was born and educated in old South Wales. He came to Australia to continue post-doctoral research in physical chemistry at the University of Sydney. A few years later, he took up a lecturer’s appointment at the Broken Hill division of the University of New South Wales. On the closure of this division, Derek transferred to the Kensington campus of this university.
An enthusiastic consumer of fiction all his life, Derek started his own creative writing in the late 1990s. So far, he has completed three novels and about fifteen short stories. This is his first published work.
