Francis Robert Dudman was born in Sydney’s western suburbs in 1938. Frank
married Joyce and they moved to Sylvania in the Sutherland Shire where they lived
until moving to Queensland in 1992.
Leaving school after receiving an elementary education, he joined an advertising
firm with the view of becoming a commercial artist and began evening classes
at East Sydney College for the Arts. His first love was, and remains, books and
writing, but he worked in the field of advertising as a graphic designer/copy
writer for the rest of his career until his retirement in 1990. This allowed
him to concentrate on writing.
An avid reader, he developed a desire to write himself and set about writing
Without Heroes. During the long gestation period of this book, he produced a
number of shorter works, experimenting in various genres, but remained committed
to completing the novel. When not writing, Frank spends much of his time painting
in his studio
