Jeff Carr was born in Geraldton WA in 1944 and was raised in modest circumstances in the small nearby stock-selling and railway town-site of Narngulu.
From a shy, nervous, stammering child he progressed to become a schoolteacher before entering the WA State Parliament in 1974 as Member for Geraldton.
After nine years in opposition he became a senior Minister for eight years in the Labor Governments of Brian Burke, Peter Dowding and Carmen Lawrence. He held seven portfolios including Police, Mines and Fuel and Energy.
Jeff left politics in 1991 after falling out with Carmen Lawrence and being dumped from Cabinet.
In retirement he became actively involved in sport administration in addition to his family role as house spouse. He is presently serving on three Government Agencies.
