A complicated story set primarily in Western Australia involving the IRA, the SAS, political refugees, diamond mines, international scams, murder – tragedy and love!
Roger Crook writes masterfully as he fleshes out this fictional story that spans the globe and breathes life into fictional characters. The two main characters, newlyweds David and Barbara, are whisked away from Wales, in fear of reprisals from the IRA, and flown to Western Australia to begin a new life with an old uncle who has set up himself up as a wealthy landowner and mining entrepreneur. The main action takes place over the course of 11 days after the couple arrive at Uncle Paul’s home.
On their first day, there is a car bomb scare, then a fire, then mysterious surveillance, talk of corruption involving diamonds, the police and government and a South African connection.
The pregnant Barbara has to return to England because of illness, and David is faced with the dilemma of whether to return to her side and risk being found by the IRA.
This is an action-packed, detailed, whirlwind story – a credit to its author.
