An Unquiet State

Ms Janne McMahon OAM

I found the book to be enthralling in its storyline, detail and raw emotion. The setting of the book in the Australian countryside, with both its beauty and its fury highlighting the raw emotion of people from different ages and backgrounds sets this book apart from many. In dealing with domestic violence and the effects both physically and emotionally on the recipients is a view into something many experience, but do not share, suffering quietly.
The book focuses also on Jay the central character, as a young woman with her own demons, struggling with the inner voices of mental illness yet functioning well, a credit to her strength. The author beautifully and sensitively touches on Jay's brother's recent death, in a manner that touched me.
A wonderful book, a taste of humanity in all its forms and truly Australian in content.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this outstanding novel.
kind regards,
Janne
