Bill McGeever was born in Toowoomba, Queensland, in 1925. His father was a railway officer in the Traffic Branch of the Queensland Railways and was transferred frequently to various stations throughout the state. He attended five different schools before passing the Junior Public Examination in 1940 while attending the Christian Brothers College in Ipswich.
He joined the Queensland Public Service in 1941. After 18 months service in the then Labour and Industries Department, he was seconded to the Queensland Audit Office in 1942 and, except for 3 years war service in the A.I.F., he served continuously in that department until his retirement in 1985.
He has travelled extensively in Queensland conducting audits in country centres and has performed audits in all areas of government and semi-government.
He is married with three children and four grandchildren.
