Chris Kirby-Ryan was born in Sunshine, Victoria. Being brought up in a family that owned several cinemas in the nineteen-fifties and sixties, her love of writing was triggered at an early age. Chris would watch the movies over and over again, inspiring her to create stories of her own.
She entered advertising at the age of eighteen and became a copywriter, then creative director, before opening her own advertising agency, the SPAM Consulting Group, in the early eighties.
From there, Chris became a full-time freelance writer, helping others tell their stories and completing three novels of her own. Chris was a finalist in the Queensland Writers Centre's inaugural Adaptable Awards in 2018.
Chris currently lives in the Brisbane seaside suburb of Redcliffe with her husband, John.
