After education at Somerville House, Brisbane and working as a Secretary, Mary studied at the Brisbane Kindergarten Teacher's College. She became an early childhood teacher. This experience gave her a love of children's literature and an insight into their interests. She wrote The Secret of Saint Nicholas in answer to her daughter's questions about why daddy played Father Christmas. When friends asked for a copy to share with their children, Mary researched the story further and this book became reality. Mary lives at Wellington Point with her husband and three children in a late nineteenth century home. She keeps busy renovating, gardening and writing and enjoys embroidery and quilting. She has taught children's art and adult Folk Art.
