Born in France in 1946, writer Maryse Ledru migrated to Australia in 1976 and
lives in Queensland.
Her early attention to literature was kindled by the French and Greek classics,
but she fell in love with the English language after moving to Australia, and
was then able to read and appreciate the works of Shakespeare, Pope and Milton.
Many years on dialysis during the 1980’s, gave Maryse the time needed to
put her newly acquired knowledge of English into practice, which she did in the
form of poetry. She sent some of her creations to an ABC show called John Reid’s
Poet corner which was broadcast every Saturday morning on 3LO.
The selection by John Reid of many of her poems which were read on the programme,
was to be the encouragement she needed and gave her the impetus to continue writing.
The Lifting of the Mask is her first book.
